How To Delete Twitter Account Permanently?

Twitter is a hellish snark-den populated by trolls, spambots, and Kardashians. Why would anyone purposefully spend time there? Well, the good news is you don't have to! In fact, you can delete your entire twitter account to make it like you were never there at all.

If you'd like to preserve your pithy, 140-character musings, you can download your Twitter archive before ditching the service. Just navigate to Settings > Your Twitter archive and click Request your archive. Twitter will email you a link when the file is ready to be downloaded; this process could take up to a few days.

Is deactivating the same as deleting?

No. Think of deactivating your twitter account as a way to signal to Twitter that they should delete it. Within minutes of you deactivating it, Twitter will remove your data from their website and place your account in a queue for permanent deletion.

30 days later Twitter will begin the process of permanently deleting your account from their system, which can take up to a week.

Alright, everyone good? GOOD! Now, let's murder our Twitters Permanently!

Step 1: Head over to Twitter.com and log in to your account (you can only delete accounts from the web, not from mobile devices).
Step 2: Go to your account settings by clicking on your profile pic in the top-right corner and selecting from the pull-down menu, or just click here.
Step 3: Click "Deactivate my account." It's written in tiny type the bottom of the page.
Step 4: Click the Deactivate button. It will ask you to enter your password to verify that you truly want to commit Twitter-suicide. You do, so click it. And #boom, you are good to go. #Congrats!
